SLOCAN VALLEY, B.C. – Contractors are getting ready to start working on the fiber backbone that will bring high speed internet to communities in the Slocan Valley.
Dave Lampron from Columbia Basin Broadband Corporation says that the organization trying to bring internet infrastructure to the area are in talks with service providers.
Those providers will have to connect to the fiber in order for customers to get online.
After that, the final step is to connect the households to the fiber.
“18 to 24 months is a realistic time to say, you know what, the backbone is up and running and now it can be utilized by service providers,” Lampron told the MyNelsonNow.com newsroom at a RDCK meeting on Thursday.
He compares the fiber optic backbone to an electricity line, that will get the power to the community, but then has to be connected to the households.
The project will run at an estimated $7.2 million, and will be installed from the Playmor junction to just north of Nakusp.
