Police make ‘significant’ drug seizure in Slocan Valley

RCMP say they have seized enough illicit drugs to provide a dose to everyone in the Slocan Valley.

They say around 4 a.m. today an officer came across a vehicle in a ditch near Silverton. The man and woman inside appeared asleep. The officer stopped to check on their well-being and discovered evidence of drugs.

The pair were detained for possession for the purpose of trafficking and a search of their vehicle turned up “significant” amounts of meth, fentanyl, and cocaine as well as what is believed to be stolen property.

This seizure is particularly notable for the Slocan Valley,” Cpl. Thomas Gill said in a news release. “The quantity of drugs recovered is enough to supply every citizen in our community with a dose of these highly toxic and dangerous substances.”

(While they did not give exact amounts, the population of the Slocan Valley on the 2021 census was just over 6,000.)

The pair were released without charges while police continue to investigate. The vehicle was seized and will be referred to the Civil Forfeiture Office as possible proceeds of crime.
