Hall Street Pier project almost finished its final phase

After three years of planning and construction, Nelson’s Hall Street Pier project is wrapping up this week.

The $4.8 million project was first proposed in 2020 and broke ground in 2022. Keeping the project on budget was the biggest challenge for the city, due to supply chain issues and inflation which delayed its completion by a few months.

The city’s latest update on the project from Nov. 24 states that there are just a few finishing touches left before it’s finished.

According to the release, work is currently underway to finish installing security controls and LED lights in the Ladybird display, handrail lighting, steel transition ramps to the floating dock, and the canopy structure.

The $861,000 canopy is being constructed on-site. Crews started installing the steel beams for the structure on Nov. 8 and are now preparing materials to install its wood cladding.

In September, the city told Vista Radio that the canopy wouldn’t be complete until at least Christmas but hasn’t responded to a follow-up inquiring whether it’s still on track to be done by then.
