Original Story (March 18, 2024):

The Nelson Police Department is actively investigating an unprovoked assault of two teenage girls.

The department said in a press release that the disturbing incident occurred on Mar. 15, at 4:30 p.m. near Nelson’s Cedar and Front Street intersection.

The suspect, an adult male, reportedly targeted the two victims for no apparent reason.

Two witnesses intervened in the attack and followed the suspect for a while before losing sight of him in the downtown core.

The suspect is described in the release as a 40-year-old Caucasian male, with long dark hair, dark facial hair, wearing black dirty clothes, and possibly a dark jacket.

“This was a senseless and reprehensible act of violence against two innocent individuals,” stated Inspector Kris Rice.

“Our priority is to ensure the safety of our community, and we are fully committed to identifying and apprehending the suspect responsible for this assault.”
