UPDATED:Tentative deal in Castlegar labour dispute

A deal appears to have been reached between CUPE local 2262 and the city of Castlegar.

The union released a statement Tuesday afternoon saying that after two days of mediated talks the two parties had reached a tentative new collective agreement.

Both sides must still ratify the deal and we’re not expecting to learn the terms until then.

Cupe 2262 said it was going to hold a ratification meeting Tuesday night.

A statement on the city’s website said ratification votes by both parties would be conducted as a soon as possible.

The city says if ratified the seven-week strike will end and unionized employees will be back at work no later than January 5th.
