Honor for local Cadet Commander

It’s important to mentor youth in the community.

So says Chief of the Castlegar Fire Department Gerry Rempel after receiving the first Bar to his Canadian Decoration for 22 years of service in the Canadian Armed Forces.

Rempel has been the Commanding Officer in both the Castlegar and Nelson Royal Canadian Air Cadets Squadrons.

Rempel said he became involved with the Air Cadets when he was working as a fire fighter at the West Kootenay Regional Airport.

He has been with the Nelson Osprey Squadron for the past seven years.
