Driver banned from the road for 90 days after Nelson traffic stop

A Nelson driver has been handed a 90-day driving prohibition after police stopped a vehicle displaying what officers described as unsafe driving practices.

The Nelson Police Department said it was conducting proactive patrols just before 11 p.m. on Aug. 9 when officers spotted a southbound vehicle on Nelson Ave that raised concerns.

Police initiated a traffic stop after the vehicle parked in the Safeway parking lot.

Officers reported the driver appeared to be showing signs of impairment. Police demanded a roadside breath test which resulted in a “fail” reading.

The driver was arrested and issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition. The vehicle was also impounded for 30 days.

“The Nelson Police Department would like to remind motorists that it is never acceptable or safe to drive while impaired,” said police.

“If you have consumed drugs or alcohol, ensure that you plan ahead for a safe ride and do not get behind the wheel.”
