Two Nelson men face trouble behind the wheel

A failed roadside breath test and driving while banned have landed two Nelson men in trouble with police.

According to the Nelson Police Department, the first incident happened around 2 a.m. on Oct. 25 when an officer on patrol in the downtown core spotted a vehicle with an N magnet driving erratically.

The officer pulled the vehicle over and noticed the smell of alcohol on the 43-year-old driver’s breath.

The man provided a sample on an approved screening device, which resulted in a fail reading.

He was issued an Immediate Roadside Prohibition and his vehicle was impounded.

The following day, an officer conducting traffic enforcement near Trafalgar Middle School spotted a driver rolling through a stop sign before turning onto Josephine Street.

Police said another eastbound vehicle had to slow down quickly to avoid a collision.

The officer pulled the vehicle over and discovered the driver, a 68-year-old Nelson man, didn’t have a valid driver’s licence or insurance.

Further investigation determined he was driving while prohibited.

He was arrested and issued an appearance notice, along with tickets for inactive insurance and an obstructed licence plate.
