Nelson police investigate theft of $1,000 worth of copper piping

Nelson police are investigating after about 200 pounds of copper piping worth at least $1,000 was stolen from a shed.

The department received a report of the theft on Monday Oct. 5. The caller told police they believed the copper was taken over the previous weekend.

Officers searched the surrounding area, including at a nearby abandoned encampment, but were unable to locate the stolen piping.

On Oct. 9, police received another report from the same property after a shed was found rummaged through with its padlock smashed. Although several items had been displaced, the caller was unsure whether anything else had been stolen.

Police are investigating whether the two incidents are connected.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Nelson Police Department at 250-354-3919.
