Nelson Police Department welcomes new inspector with extensive RCMP background

A former RCMP inspector with experience in organized crime, cyber and financial investigations and international policing is joining the Nelson Police Department.

Tom Tomiye has joined the department as its newest inspector, replacing Jason Jewkes, who was promoted to Deputy Police Chief in April.

The department said Tomiye most recently served as an inspector with the RCMP in B.C., working in federal policing as the operations officer in charge of the Cyber and Financial Investigations Team and officer in command of the Border Integrity Program.

His previous roles include working with the RCMP’s Serious and Organized Crime Unit and Anti-Corruption Unit, as well as serving as an international liaison officer for the Indo-Pacific region.

He also oversaw the RCMP’s deployment for FIFA World Cup events in B.C. this past summer.

“We are thrilled to have Inspector Tomiye choose Nelson as his next chapter, and we know that he will be an excellent addition to the department,” said the department.
