RDCK unlikely to join Multi-Material BC for three years

Don’t expect the Regional District of Central Kootenay to join Multi-Material BC for a while.

The RDCK hoped to sign on with the industry stewardship group for rural recycling but it won’t happen this year.

Managing director Allen Langdon says the problem is some producers still refuse to participate in the program.

Langdon says they have a waiting list of about 70 communities and private depots waiting to come on board.

RDCK resource recovery manager Mike Morrison says in the meantime they’re looking at alternatives.

Morrison says they would still ultimately like to join MMBC to save taxpayers’ money.

MMBC provides curbside pickup in Nelson, Castlegar, Kaslo, and Nakusp.
