April jobless numbers

The regional unemployment rate continues to climb but is still not as high as the same time last year.

April saw 7.5% of the labour force out of work in the East and West Kootenays – up from 7.2% the previous month.

Unemployment sat at 7.9% in April of 2014.

5,500 people didn’t have work last month which is about 300 more than in March.

Canada’s unemployment rate hasn’t changed month over month at 7.2%.

The provincial rate has inched down to 6.2%.
