Heli skiing proposal always tough sell: rural director

A local area director says it was always a tough sell proposing a new heli ski operation near Kokanee Glacier Park.

Area E’s Ramona Faust is reacting to the ministry’s rejection of the idea and is pleased officials took into account the widespread concerns raised by the public.

Faust says it would have been beneficial for the applicant to have hosted a public meeting so more could have been learned about potential environmental impacts.

Also it would have helped in determining what economic impact it might have on existing heli ski operators.

Under provincial regulations a proponent is not obliged to host a public meeting.
