A former mayor of Nelson is excited to be joining a local delegation to Izushi, Japan next month.
Gerald Rotering, who now lives in Victoria, went on the first visit 30 years ago.
And as a result of the sister city relationship he has actual relatives living there.
Rotering says it’s gratifying that the relationship has persisted, despite faltering at times.

Nelson’s 15-member delegation also includes current mayor Deb Kozak and city councillor Anna Purcell.
They leave March 17 and will be gone two weeks.
