Nelson fire still investigating early morning brush fire

Four Nelson firefighters responded to reports of a small brush fire near two homes in the 500 block of Second Street.

According to a media release the blaze happened early Saturday, and covered a two by four meter area and consisted primarily of fallen deciduous branches and heavy leavy debris, but responders were able to contain the fire before it spread to the nearby homes causing more damage.

No injuries were reported. Nelson Fire and Rescue say they are still investigating the cause of the blaze.

Fire officials say it is important for everyone to call in small ground fire fires, and abandoned campfires since they remain a concern, despite the colder climate and increased moisture, especially when they are located within the city limits.
