Ainsworth landmark in trouble

A big problem has been discovered in the basement of the J.B. Fletcher museum in Ainsworth Hot Springs.

Terry Peterson with the society that operates it says groundwater has deteriorated support posts to the point where the building may not be structurally sound.

They’ve asked for $125,000 in Columbia Basin Trust heritage funding.

Peterson notes the museum was founded by the late Mavis Stainer in 1988.

The building operated as a general store from 1896 to 1973 and reopened as a museum in 1988.
