Timeframe not known for Greater Trail sewer upgrades

Greater Trail communities agree they want a sewer plant upgrade rather than a new one but when to do it remains uncertain.

Rossland mayor Kathy Moore says environmentally they, Trail and Warfield should stop stop pumping primary-treated liquid waste into the Columbia River.

But she admits taking their time allows for catching up on old infrastructure and reducing the amount of liquid waste.

Moore says Rossland is already taking great strides to reduce their flows into the system which will mean savings for their taxpayers.

The sewer plant upgrade will cost about $26 million and is needed to comply with provincial laws requiring secondary treatment. A completely new facility would cost over $36 million.
