Lightning sparks more fires

The South East Fire Centre is giving us a clear indication of just how dangerous wildfire conditions are.

The lightning storm that rolled through the region at the beginning of the week was largely responsible for all but 5 of 81 new wildfires.

Ground crews are being supported by helicopters and airtankers as they work to contain and extinguish these fires.

39 Of them already out or contained.

None of the new fires are currently a threat to any structures or communities.

Smoke from some of them may be highly visible.
