IIO will retain jurisdiction in Stevenson case

After more than two weeks of probing, the Independent Investigations Office has decided to retain jurisdiction in the matter related to the injury to Andrew Stevenson.

He was hurt after a police chase when he climbed over a bridge and fell while clambering down a tree.

IIO Spokesman Owen Court.

The IIO has concluded it’s visit and interviewing in Nelson – they would not say if Stevenson had been spoken with.

At this point they aren’t saying whether or not any offence may have been committed by the arresting officer.

Police have given no details of the circumstances.
