Nelson seeks trimmed down Civic Arena mural project

Is Nelson City Council prepared to release any taxpayer dollars for the Civic Arena mural project?

The job has a total proposed cost of $100,000 and most of council thinks that’s too high .

The first phase ask is for $30,000 and the city has awarded it $10,000 in CBT grants.

Councillor Donna Macdonald says money could be allocated from a special project fund but that is rarely used.

Council has referred the request to the cultural development committee who’ll work with the Nelson Regional Sports Council on reducing the costs and ensuring most of the budget does indeed go to a local artist.
