Balfour ferry comment period extended

The public comment period on the future of the Balfour ferry terminal has been extended.

Originally the deadline for feedback was Wednesday but now government is giving another three months.

That means you have until Oct. 6 to make your voice heard.

Critics called for such an extension, saying three weeks didn’t cut it.

The Ministry of Transportation is mulling either upgrading the Balfour terminal or moving it to Queens Bay.

It if stays put a new ferry would have to be built to replace the aging MV Balfour.

It the terminal moves, a new ferry won’t be necessary and the crossing time would be reduced but a popular beach would be lost.

The ministry says the status quo isn’t an option.
