Dispensary regulation will be back in 2017, Kozak says

We haven’t heard the last of regulating medical marijuana dispensaries in Nelson.

Last year council voted to adopt a bylaw that would govern them but then changed its mind.

Mayor Deb Kozak says they’ll try again this year.

Kozak says it’ll be modeled on Squamish which began issuing business licenses to dispensaries last July.

Nelson has six dispensaries compared to two in Grand Forks and one in Rossland.

Meanwhile, Kozak says 2016 was a big year for development in Nelson with the completion of Nelson Commons.

She says more projects are on the way in 2017.

She also points to the Nelson CARES Society’s housing project to develop 48 units at an old motel site.

And she’s hopeful developers will be interested in Railtown now that a neighbourhood plan has been adopted.
