Dozens ring in 2017 by jumping in Kootenay Lake

A huge turnout for the Polar Bear Swim in Nelson today.

About 300 people were at Lakeside Park and probably 70 to 80 of them actually went into Kootenay Lake.

Among them were Ana Weiland of Balfour and Mavis Rossel of Nelson.

Another first-time swimmer was Nelson school trustee Curtis Bendig.

The event almost didn’t happen when the Rhythm Ropers said they wouldn’t be able to do organize it.

But Kootenay Co-op Radio came to the rescue and the station’s Stephanie Myers says they were happy to do so.
