Variances approved for SHARE housing project

Two proposed apartment buildings in Nelson have advanced a few steps closer to reality.

The SHARE housing project would see a five-storey multi-use building put up behind SHARE Nelson (the former Savoy Lanes bowling alley).

Pastor Jim Reimer says city council has granted them some development variances around access and parking.

Reimer says he’s pleased the $10 million project is moving ahead.

The building would have 39 one-bedroom rental units, each about 400 square feet, plus some commercial space.

Council is also sending a rezoning application for the Lakeside Place development to public hearing.

We’ll have more about that on Tuesday.
