Castlegar in rare open fire ban

The city of Castlegar is issuing a complete ban on all open fires for the first time in over a decade.

Fire Chief Gerry Rempel says this prolonged hot and dry spell has prompted the move in tandem with the South East Fire Centre’s camp fire ban.


Not since the devastating wildfire summer of 2003 has the city taken such measures.

Camp fires, burning barrels and fireworks are all banned.
