Phone scammer use spoofing technology to pose as RCMP officer

NELSON, B.C. – Police warm the public to be vigilant after a Nelson woman has received a call from a scammer pretending to be from the RCMP.

The warning comes after a Nelson woman was asked for money over the phone by a man claiming to be from the RCMP.

He encourages anyone who receives these calls to contact the RCMP or the Canadian Anti-fraud Centre.
