Whooping cough numbers surge in Nelson

More needs to be done to spread the word about the effectiveness and safety of the Whooping Cough vaccine.

This from Interior Health as Nelson has seen an unusually high rate of cases of the bacterial lung infection – 40 in the last six months.

It can be very serious for babies.

Medical Health Officer Dr Rob Parker says two thirds of parents are getting their children immunized …and that’s not enough.


He says they hear from some parents that the vaccine can give a child brain damage and there has been a great deal of study showing that is not the case.
