Educating candidates on Nelson's social issues

An All Candidates election forum in Nelson Wednesday evening is very much focused on educating the people running for council.

Chair Rona Park with the Social Planning Action Network says the so-called “reverse forum” at the Best Western hotel will have candidates listening to local experts discussing many areas of social need.

Childcare as well as mental health and substance use are also areas where the society will make sure candidates are informed of the serious issues facing the community.

Park says the aim is to ensure candidates are advocates for changes from the city policy perspective and also in terms of securing provincial support.
