Centralized composting still years away:rural Director

The RDCK wants to get something going regarding residential composting but the bigger solutions are still some ways off.

This from Area Director Ron Mickel who says in the short term they’re pondering a program for homeowners to buy a new composter for their property.

Modern models have handle to make them easier to turn over and reduce odours.

As for the longer term Mickel says transporting curbside pick-up organics to a landfill is expensive and options could be three years away.

He’s hopeful the RDCK and RDKB can share a centralized composting site as a way of driving costs down for everyone.
