Nelson poverty reduction plan takes first steps

Local social service advocates have started a community dialogue on developing a Poverty Reduction Strategy for Nelson.

Helen Lutz is part of the team and while the Province and Feds will continue to be pushed for help she says it will be a made-in-Nelson plan.

She says they were at Saturday’s Community Connect Day and spoke with several people who have “lived experience” of poverty.

Community conversations will also engage businesses and other stakeholders as they put together a plan for next Spring.

Areas of immediate focus can be affordable housing, food access on weekends and better bus service.
