The RDCK’s Five Year Financial Plan is ready to roll with, with an average 5.7 per cent increase in property taxes for residents, although this is highly variable depending on the Electoral Area or Municipality the resident lives in.
The Board of Directors adopted the 2025-2029 Financial Plan Bylaw at the March 20 meeting, with Nelson residents to see the highest increase of 6.6 per cent from the previous year.
Castlegar taxpayers were hit the least with a 2.3 per cent increase, while Creston residents will see a 4.6 per cent rise.
While it does look like things are going up, the average increase is slightly down from last year’s 5.8 per cent increase.
Nelson’s $5.7 million budget will be spread across nine services, with the Nelson and District community recreation facilities taking a big piece of 2.571 million.
Castlegar’s $3.9 million budget will be divided across eight services, with the city’s arena and aquatic complex taking a combined $2.757 million.
The RDCK hosted nine hybrid public information sessions (in-person and online), one Special Budget Meeting, plus individual budgets were discussed at all commission and committee meetings over the last two months, which allowed the public in our various sub regions to comment and provide feedback on the five-year Financial Plan.
