The BC Coroner has found a damaged air brake line was a major factor in the fatal truck crash at the bottom of the Warfield Hill almost two years ago.
51 year old Ontario driver Frederick Wilkinson died when he lost control of his big rig which was carrying cement blocks.
The coroner concluded that a kink in a line caused the trailer unit’s brakes to fail.
The other brakes on the tractor consequently failed as they burnt up and melted.
The truck rolled over and went into a ditch.
The driver honked his air horn on his way down the hill to alert a crew of three city workers who happened to be in the crash-line.
They got out of the way before the truck smashed into their pick-up truck.
