Jumbo ordered to stop construction

Jumbo Glacier Resort in the East Kootenay has been ordered to stop construction on their day lodge and service building.

A report commissioned by the Ministry shows they are located in an avalanche zone.

The developer says they will mitigate the risks by reinforcing the structures and put a comprehensive avalanche control plan in place.

The Ministry would need to grant an amendment to their environmental certificate first.

This latest set-back for the long-planned jumbo resort is separate from another pending government probe.

That’s to determine if the developers have made a “substantial start” to construction in terms of their obligations.
