The city of Grand Forks has released an updated statement surrounding council’s attempt to oust councillor Julia Butler from office over a conflict of interest.
It won’t give details on the conflict as it will be before the Supreme Court but the statement says Butler has breached her oath of office.
The statement – in part- lists the oath which includes that a person elected will not allow any private or direct financial interest to influence their conduct or discussion in public matters.
Butler – who continues to oppose the water meter program – says the perceived conflict has to do with her previously owning a lawn care business.
She says she publicly opposed the meters as a business owner and citizen before she was elected.
She denies she’s in conflict and has her own legal opinion to that effect.
