Boil notice downgraded in Nelson

The City of Nelson has downgraded a boil water notice issued last week.

However, a water quality advisory issued May 6 due to elevated turbidity levels remains in effect.

In a news release today, the city said water samples indicate the boil advisory is no longer necessary. It was imposed after a couple of samples tested positive for E. Coli bacteria.

“Recent hot temperatures and resulting rapid snowmelt from a historically deep snowpack continue to result in elevated turbidity (cloudiness) levels in our surface water source,” the city said.

“This results in degraded water quality. Elevated turbidity is a common occurrence during the spring in Nelson.”
