Update: Mount Midgley fire 50 % contained

An update on the fires in and around the Creston Valley.

The Mount Midgley fire is now at 50 % contained.

Crews are working on a sprinkler line at the extreme north end of the fire as a precaution, due to today’s winds, and mopping up the perimeter of the fire.

The 332-hectare fire is burning 13-kilometres north west of Creston.

And the Parker Ridge Fire burning in Idaho remains at zero % contained.

Earlier today, Porthill residents were asked to voluntarily evacuate due to anticipated high winds.

The US Forest Service has 125 personnel and 2 helicopters  working on containment and structure protection.

Yesterday, a controlled  burn of stubble fields was performed fields near the 6, 100  acre fire to help reduce spreading.
