AKBLG underway

This year’s annual convention of the Association of Kootenay Boundary Local Governments (AKBLG) is underway in Creston.

About 120 representatives from across our region have gathered for the three days of discussions.

President of the association – rural Kaslo’s Andy Shadrack – says collaboration across the area is a major thrust because most communities are small and very rural.

Issues that are key to our region include rural health care, the future of the Columbia River Treaty and the recent changes announced by the provincial government surrounding the Agricultural Land Reserve.

Resolutions agreed upon this week are forwarded to the Union of BC Municipalities convention.
