Our region becomes part of UBC medicine residency program

It’s good news in attempts to boost new physician recruits in our area.

UBC has announced Kootenay Boundary will be added to their list of sites for rural family medicine residency.

Students will complete their medical training with a 2-year stint here.

Dr. Cheryl Hume is the Kootenay Boundary rural family medicine residency site director.

She says historically students have tended to stay in urban centres so to be one of eight rural locations is excellent news.


…And she says the huge appreciation doctors get from rural patients may encourage them to stay and raise their own family here.
