Wildsafe tags 49 Nelson garbage containers

Our local Wildsafe BC Coordinator says a large amount of household garbage has had to be tagged in recent weeks because it still being left on the curbside overnight.

Joanne Siderius says 49 containers in Nelson have been given the sticker treatment telling owners it’s a wildlife attractant.


Siderius says city by-law officers and conservation officers are aware of the problem and fines can be handed out.

But she adds the public awareness seems to be improving because three years ago their garbage inspection efforts would have revealed almost twice as many homes not in compliance.
