Study shows housing for Nelson Youth Centre building

A feasibility study shows the Nelson Youth Centre building could be fixed up while two stories of housing are added.

This from Lukas Armstrong with Cover Architecture who worked with the Cascadia Green Building Council on the plan.

19 to 33 units could be built for about $2.4 million.

He says that’s a saving of around 30% for a downtown project this size because the land and servicing is already covered by the existing structure.

Armstrong says the project could appeal to a private or provincial housing entity.

And the work would by necessity enhance the existing Lake Street structure and address key upgrades needed for the youth centre.
