New taxation deal sought for NDCC

It’s time to work out a new cost-sharing deal on the Nelson and District Community Complex.

More rural residents would appear to be using the facility – including from neighboring areas that aren’t part of the 40 year old shared funding deal featuring the Queen City, Area F and part of Area E.

Nelson figures it’s time for a more equitable taxation arrangement but figuring out usage numbers may be tricky – that’s why the Recreation Commission partners will need a detailed study.

Chair and Area E Director Ramona Faust admits there are two sides to the issue.

Faust says it may require a similar public outreach effort that preceded the 2010 Nelson & District Library referendum that ultimately saw far more rural taxpayers join that service.
