RCMP fatally shoot man in Castlegar:IIO investigating

A fatal shooting by RCMP in Castlegar.

It happened on Highway 3 at 8 pm last night .

The Independent Investigations Office of BC is confirming it is investigating after an officer shot the man.

According to the RCMP, officers were responding to a driving complaint in the city limits.

During an attempted traffic stop a male was subsequently shot by the officer. He was transported to hospital for treatment however did not survive his injuries.

The IIO was notified immediately.  Spokesman Ralph Krenz could not offer further details.

A team of five Investigators including a forensic specialist was expected to arrive in Castlegar Friday morning.

The IIO says info is limited at this time but it will release more details as soon as possible.
