Castlegar looks at second funding source for street upgrades

The City of Castlegar won’t put all their eggs in one basket when it comes to securing funding for upgrades to Columbia Ave.

Staff initially sought all of the funds for the approximately $3.5 million project from the Building Canada Fund.

Civic works director Chris Barlow says they’ll now seek $2.3 million of their initial request from gas tax funding.

He says it brings the cost of each application down — which increases their chances of securing funds.

The project will improve roads, storm and water infrastructure and pedestrian and cycling facilities.
