The collapse of a massive tree limb at Nelson’s Lakeside Park Thursday makes a clear statement on the need to address the Queen City’s many ageing trees.
So says Karen MacDonald with public works following the early morning incident.
The city and Nelson Hydro have been cutting back many older trees across town and MacDonald says it has to be done.
The silver maple that shed the limb has now been cut down.
It was rotting badly inside and had other big branches come down in recent years.
Had this incident happened during peak times it could easily have resulted in a tragic outcome.
