IH response to Lemon Creek fuel spill not good enough

Interior Health admits their response after the Lemon Creek fuel spill last year wasn’t good enough.

IH has reviewed their own reaction to the spill of 33,000 litres of jet fuel in the Slocan Valley.

Roger Parsonage their Regional Director for Health Protection says over the first 72 hours the situation was chaotic with an inability to contact enough staff.

He says that meant the public didn’t get quick or even accurate answers regarding health concerns around drinking water and the heavy fuel vapour.

Parsonage says they’ve implemented protocols to ensure a much bigger and better response in future incidents.
